Very glad that Vince Young is getting this chance with the Browns

The best play I have ever seen. My favorite Sports Illustrated cover ever.

The best play and game I have ever seen. My favorite Sports Illustrated cover ever. Just looking at this cover brings back memories of pure passion and bliss.

When Vince Young suited up for the Green Bay Packers last year in preseason, I had wished the Browns would give him a chance. He is one of my favorite players ever. I was surprised he didn’t make the Packers final roster. His play at the University of Texas was literally magical.

The 2006 Rose Bowl National Championship game will be one I never forget. That touchdown run on 4th and 5 is one I will also never forget. That is one of those moments that I even remember exactly where I was watching it. Unforgettable. I hated USC then. In fact, my favorite team was whoever was playing them.

USC was so good. They always won. When Texas met them in the title game, I never wanted a team to win more. Still to this day I’m not sure if I’ve ever rooted for a team harder.

Vince Young’s performance that night was the best I’ve ever seen. The joy he brought me was so great that it actually has pained me to see him go downhill the last five years or so.

I think he is talented. In preseason last year, he completed more then half of his passes which may not sound that great, but he hadn’t played in a while.

I can’t wait to see what he does with this new chance. I wish him the best of luck. Because of him I love college football as much as I do, which also was the time I started following NFL like a maniac. So who knows, I possibly owe my love of football to him.

I’ll never forget what he did that night in Pasadena and I hope he makes it on a NFL roster for the entirety of the 2014 season. It is an honor to have him on the Browns.

Sports that I want to see the most

San Diego has a lot of sporting events, but there are some other places I would like to go.

I want to go to a SEC football game. Seeing a game in an atmosphere like that would be awesome. I love SDSU football, but there isn’t much fan involvement. I would also like to see a high school football game in either Texas or Oklahoma. I’ve read Friday Night Lights and its looks pretty legit.

I would also like to go to basketball games at Kansas, Kentucky and Duke. Those places had some of the best players and they have so much history. I want to see what the fan support and particularly the student section is like and how it compares to SDSU’s student section, The Show. The traditions are what appeal to me the most.

The next event I want to go to is a major horse race like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness or Belmont. Those tracks have so much history.

I went to the 2009 NBA Draft but I want to go to another draft. It was one of the best events that I have ever been to. The suspense that comes with each pick is hard to beat.

I’d like to go to every NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL stadium but there are a few I would like to go to more then others.

Fenway Park is a place that I will not miss for anything. If they announce theirs only two years left or something, I would make sure that I get there in time.

Wrigley Field is another MLB stadium I would like to go to. It wouldn’t be that bad if I never make there though. I would rather go to most of the other places on this list. Lambeau Field is sort of the same way.

I’d like to see all of these places but for now I have the Padres, Chargers and Aztecs to enjoy.

Top quarterbacks by year

When I want to see what a high school player is ranked, I look at because they have been right right many times in the past. Today I went and looked back at the top quarterbacks they have rated each year. Its pretty interesting and most of these guys made the NFL. I will give my thoughts on each one.

Vince Young was a good pick. He won a national title and was drafted third overall.

Kyle Wright didn’t have a great aceer at Miami. When he got there, they were a top ten ranked team, and when he left they were on a downward spiral.

I thought Rhett Bomar was a great player at Oklahoma. Then he got in trouble with a car dealership. He was a late round draft pick and he never could make it in the NFL.

Mark Sanchez had a good college career and was the fifth overall pick. Rivals got this one correct.

Matt Stafford became a number one overall pick. Rivals got this pick 100% correct.

Jimmy Clausen rolled into Notre Dame in a limo and was expected to win multiple Heismans. That wasn’t the case and he left Notre Dame as a second round pick.

Terrelle Pryor was a very good college quarterback who led Ohio St. to a BCS game every year he was there. If he hadn’t been in trouble he probably would have been a very high draft choice. Even though he was drafted in the supplemental draft, he was able to become a starter.

Matt Barkley was a sure fire top draft choice before returning to USC for his senior season. That was a mistake. USC did terrible his senior year and he fell deep in the draft.

Jake Heaps, Jeff Driskel, Jameis Winston and Max Browne are past number ones that are still in college.

Being a championship quarterback in college rarely means NFL Success

This year Jameis Winston and Nick Marshall were the starting quarterbacks in the national championship game. In the past, many players have started this game, and many have gone on to NFL careers. Not many of them saw the glory that they had in college though.

Winston is on pace to be the first player selected in the quarterback heavy 2015 NFL Draft. He should have a great NFL career. Nick Marshall on the other hand probably won’t. There are many players who fit into the Winston group and the Marshall group from the past.

Since Michael Vick started this game for Virginia Tech, two others have been number one overall pick. Vick had a very good NFL career that had distractions but I think he is the best quarterback who has started in the title game.

The other two who were first pick also won the Heisman trophy. First was Sam Bradford from Oklahoma, the next was Cam Newton of Auburn. Bradford, who is now with the St. Louis Rams hasn’t done much with his career yet and his time could be coming to an end as soon as this coming up season. The Rams hold the second overall pick and they could draft a quarterback. They probably won’t though because of Bradford’s contract. I think Bradford has one more year to it least show he is capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Cam Newton took Auburn to the title game where they beat Oregon. After winning the Heisman and being the first pick he went to the Carolina Panthers. Now in his third year, he took the Panthers to the Divisional round in the playoffs. He is already a great player and I know that his potential is endless. I think he is the best player since Vick to start in this game.

Besides Winston, Bradford and Newton, Jason White, Matt Leinart, Troy Smith and Tim Tebow have all won Heismans and played in this game. All four of them did either nothing or almost nothing in the NFL. Lienart was drafted tenth overall and is one of the biggest draft busts in history. Tebow, also a first rounder won a playoff game in heroic fashion, then didn’t get much of a chance again. Jason White had some bad injuries in college and was never drafted while Troy Smith was a late round draft pick.

Colt McCoy, Matt Flynn and Ken Dorsey all started in this game as well and considering none of them were first round picks, they had average careers.

Other guys like Chris Leak, Greg McElroy, Darron Thomas and Jordan Jefferson became pros and never got much of a chance.

Besides the two starters in this years game, Winston and Marshall, AJ McCarron and Everett Golson also haven’t had there NFL draft yet. McCarron will be drafted this year while Winston, Marshall and Golson will all be back in college next year. Its very possible that Winston and Marshall could be battling for a national title again next year.

My favorite title game quarterback is Vince Young. He orchestrated the greatest finish to a game I have ever seen when he beat USC 41-38 in the 2006 Rose Bowl. Young had over 200 rushing yards and I thought he would be a hall of fame pro. He was drafted third overall by the Titans and took them to the playoffs as a rookie. The rest of his career was rough, he disappeared, went broke and has had trouble getting another job in the NFL. I’m rooting for Young because that Texas title game really made me love college football.

Overall, playing in the title game doesn’t lead to guaranteed NFL success, but the potential is there.
